The Spirit of Adventure, the luxury cruise ship of Saga Cruises, calls for the first time at the Port of Santander with 800 passengers and 550 crew members on board.

The Director of the Port Authority and the Councillor for Tourism of Santander City Council have presented a plaque to Captain Franko Papic, as a tribute to the vessel’s first visit to Cantabria.

The luxury cruise ship of the British cruise Line Saga Cruises, registered by Pérez y Cía, docked at the Maritime Station last Friday 15th of October at eight o’clock in the morning, coming from Le Verdon (France) and departed for Leixoes (Portugal) at five o’clock in the afternoon. This is the third cruise ship to call at the Port of Santander since the start of the pandemic.

The Spirit of Adventure is 236 metres long and 31.2 metres wide and has a maximum capacity of 1000 passengers (currently reduced due to COVID measures to a maximum of 800) as well as 550 crew members. All of them have been able to take advantage of their stay in Cantabria to visit the city of Santander during the day, as well as other places in the region.

To commemorate this first stopover and as a tribute to the ship’s first visit to the region, the director of the Port Authority, Santiago Díaz Fraile, together with Miriam Díaz, Councillor for Tourism of Santander City Council, presented the captain of the Spirit of Adventure, Franko Papic, with a commemorative medallion and a collection of books about Santander to add to the onboard library.

For the organisation of cruise calls and the promotion of cruise tourism, the Port Authority of Santander, the Government of Cantabria and the City Council of Santander have created the brand Santander Cruise Deluxe, with the aim of promoting Cantabria as a cruise destination. With the arrival of the Spirit of Adventure this joint effort has been demonstrated once again with the contribution of plans and support of staff by the City Council of Santander, while the regional government has laid on a group of pipers and tambourine players to welcome cruise passengers to Santander.
