Swan Hellenic verdoppelt das Angebot an Kreuzfahrt-Expeditionen für die kommende Wintersaison in der Antarktis: Nach der erfolgreichen Premiere für die »SH Minerva« startet ab Oktober 2022 auch das baugleiche Schwesterschiff »SH Vega« zu neuen Routen in den polaren Regionen. Das neue Antarktis-Programm enthält neben den hochgelobten Routen der »SH Minerva« des vergangenen Winters auch neue Routen: So wird »SH Vega« ab Buenos Aires und Ushuaia zu zwei 18-tägigen Expeditionen mit Zielen auf den Südgeorgien, den Falklandinseln und der Antarktis ablegen. Unter dem Titel „Shackleton´s Discovery“ kommen weitere lange Expeditionen hinzu.
Kürzere Fahrten mit 9-, 10- und 11-tägiger Länge führen in die Antarktis und zu den Süd-Shetland-Inseln.

Announcing SH Vega is to join SH Minerva for its 2022-2023 Antarctica season, the cultural expedition cruise pioneer adds two new early itineraries following massive inaugural success
Swan Hellenic announced its 2022-2023 season cultural expedition cruises of Antarctica. The new season will reprise the itineraries with which the iconic company so successfully returned to the waves this December, while also adding new ones and more choice.
That’s because the new season will be served by two ships, not one: both SH Minerva and SH Vega, the cultural expedition cruise pioneer’s second purpose-designed 5-star ship, due to launch this September. The wider-ranging cruises comprise Shackleton’s Discovery: Antarctica, South Georgia & The Falklands – a 19-day voyage of discovery departing Buenos Aires on the 16th of November 2022, and the 16- and 19-day Antarctic Peninsula & South Georgia, departing Ushuaia on the 14th of December 2022 and 19th of January 2023 respectively. The various shorter but equally in-depth cultural expedition cruises include 9, 10 and 11-day explorations of the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands.
SH Vega will be sailing two completely new 18-day early-season itineraries for its maiden cruises, departing Buenos Aires and Ushuaia on the 19th of October and 5th of November respectively for the Falklands, South Georgia and Antarctica.
Kicking off bookings with a splash, Swan Hellenic announced a generous launch offer of 40% off all Antarctic cruises booked before the 3rd of May 2022.* What’s more, there are matching specially-reduced single occupancy supplements of just 25% for a limited number of cabins.

Today, Monday the 21st of March 2022, Swan Hellenic announced a series of changes to its 2022-23 cultural expedition cruises, responding both to the tragic situation in Ukraine and ongoing COVID-related restrictions across the Far East. As a result, SH Minerva will now be sailing a new course into the Northern Hemisphere for a refocused Arctic season, preceded by new UK Celtic discovery cruises exploring unforgettable landscapes and unique cultures.
The cultural expedition cruise pioneer’s second purpose-built polar class expedition ship, the five-star SH Vega, is now scheduled to leave Helsinki Shipyard in September. She will then set a course directly for Argentina to join her twin ship for the 2022-23 Antarctic season, which remains unchanged, retaining the itineraries that were so highly acclaimed in SH Minerva’s maiden cruises. »SH Vega«: Zweites von drei neuen Expeditions-Kreuzfahrtschiffen verlässt im September das Baudock und nimmt nach den Test Kurs auf die Antarktis
Swan Hellenic passt die Routen für die Expeditions-Kreuzfahrten diesem Sommer an. Grund hierfür sind neben den Einschränkungen der fortwährenden Covid-Pandemie in Fernost auch der Angriff auf die Ukraine.
Als Folge nimmt das 5-Sterne-Schiff »SH Minerva« in der Arktissaison Kurs auf neue Ziele: Anstelle der Russischen Arktis führen die neuen Routen um Island, nach Grönland, Schottland und Irland.

Gleichzeitig steht jetzt auch der Zeitplan für den zweiten Neubau für Swan Hellenic fest. Die »SH Vega«, das Schwesterschiff der »SH Minerva«, verlässt im September 2022 das Baudock der finnischen Schiffswerft Oy in Helsinki und nimmt nach der Endausrüstung sowie den Testfahren direkten Kurs auf die Antarktis. Das Antarktis-Routing bleibt unverändert. Somit setzt Swan Hellenic die beiden Schwesterschiffe zeitgleich in der Antarktis ein. Für die Premieren-Saison der »SH Minerva« in der Antarktis, die mit der Expeditions-Kreuzfahrt über Silvester begann, gab es viele positive Rückmeldungen.

Während mit der SH Minerva das erste der drei von der Helsinki Shipyard Oy an die Reederei Swan Hellenic zu liefernden Expeditionskreuzfahrtschiffen bereits in der Antarktis im Einsatz ist, konnte nunmehr auch das Schwesterschiff SH Vega (Bau-Nr. 517) sein Baudock verlassen und an den Ausrüstungskai verholt werden.

Dabei zeigte sich Swan Hellenic-CEO Andrea Zito nicht nur erneut begeistert von der Qualitätsarbeit der Werft, sondern auch darüber, dass ihre Mitarbeiter trotz der anhaltenden Pandemie ihren Zeitplan einhalten konnten. Der jüngste Neubau, dessen Kasko bereits beim Ausschwimmen der SH Minverva am 23 Juni letzten Jahres erstmals Wasser unter dem Kiel hatte, soll nunmehr im Mai d. J. an die Reederei übergeben werden und am 29. Mai von Leith, dem Hafen von Edinburgh, zu seiner 11tägigen Jungfernreise nach Island starten. Die beiden seinerzeit von der der Werft nahestehenden russischen Flusskreuzfahrtreederei Vodohod bestellten Schiffe sollen nicht nur im Umweltschutz auf höchste Maßstäbe setzen, sondern auch im Hotel und Küchenbereich. Dazu kommen deutschsprachige Lektoren und hohe Ansprüche an den Umweltschutz sowie modernste Hygienetechnologie mit HEPA-Filtern und Desinfektionssystemen.
Die 113 m langen 10500-BRZ-Schiffe zeichnen sich durch ihr skandinavisches Innendesign und weitläufigen Decks aus. Zahlreiche der 76 Kabinen und Suiten zwischen 18 und 49 qm verfügen über große Balkone. Für die Propulsion der über 9 Decks verfügenden Schiffe sorgt ein dieselelektrischer 5 MW-Hybrid-Antrieb mit SCR-Katalysatoren sowie einem 3 MW-Batteriepack, das ein emissionsfreies und leises Navigieren in sensiblen Regionen und Häfen ermöglicht. Die Reisegeschwindigkeit der für maximal 152 Gäste und 120 Besatzungsmitglieder ausgelegten Schiffe wird mit 15,5 kn angegeben. Neben der hohen Eisklasse PC5- und der Safe Return to Port-Auslegung ist auch die Ausrüstung mit leistungsfähigen Stabilisatoren und Abwasser sowie Abfallbehandlungssystemen zu erwähnen.
Der Verbesserung der Manövrierfähigkeit dienen zwei Bugstrahler. Für den dritten und mit 12145 BRZ etwas größeren – noch namenlosen – Neubau (Werft-Nr. 518) mit Platz für 192 Gäste und 140 Besatzungsmitglieder sowie PC6-Klasse war der Brennstart am 10. Juni erfolgt, er statt im Herbst 2022 nun mehr zum Jahresbeginn 2023 zur Ablieferung kommen. Das Schiffs-und Hotelmanagement für die Neubauten hat Swan Hellenic an V.Ships Leisure bzw. die Schwestergesellschaft V. Ships Ocean vergeben, wobei V.Ships bereits auch in die Bauaufsicht eingebunden ist. JPM

Batteriepakete ermöglichen emissionsfreie Fahrt in sensiblen Regionen
Der zweite Expeditions-Neubau für Swan Hellenic schwimmt. Nach »SH Minerva«, die bereits erfolgreich die Antarktis befährt, hat jetzt das baugleiche Schwesterschiff »SH Vega« das Dock der Schiffswerft Oy in Helsinki verlassen.
Auch der zweite Neubau der Reederei Swan Hellenic besticht durch die hohe Eisklasse PC 5 in Kombination mit modernster Technologie: Beide Schiffe werden von einem dieselelektrischen 5-Megawatt-Antriebssystem mit selektiver katalytischer Reduktion angetrieben, das maximal 3 Megawatt aufnehmen kann. Die Batteriepakete ermöglichen eine emissionsfreie und leise Einfahrt in Häfen und sensiblen Regionen. Damit sind »SH Minerva« und »SH Vega« bis zu 40 Tage oder 8.000 Seemeilen lang völlig autark unterwegs.
Parallel zum Aufschwimmen des zweiten Neubaus »SH Vega« geht auch der Bau des dritten, etwas größeren Expeditionsschiffes, voran: Starttermin ist der Jahresbeginn 2023.

»SH Vega«: Zum Auftakt Kurs Island
»SH Vega« wird im Mai 2022 an Swan Hellenic ausgeliefert. Die elftägige Jungfernreise in Richtung Island startet am 29. Mai 2022 ab Leith, dem Hafen Edinburghs.

London-based photographer Sasha Gusov, famed for his portraits of stars of the stage, silver screen, music and ballet, is more often engaged in his own artistic projects today. A constant traveller, crafting haunting images of life as he goes, the second cruise of Swan Hellenic’s brand-new ship SH Minerva was a natural choice for him to explore the vast expanses of Antarctica.
Although unable to resist taking colour digital shots of Minerva’s stylish elegant interiors and works of art, Sasha opted for his beloved film camera to take atmospheric black and white photos conveying the fierce majesty of the Antarctic Peninsula. So, when Swan Hellenic came to the assistance of the Antarctic Quest 21 expedition commemorating the centenary of Shackleton’s final voyage, Sasha was there to testify to the prompt emergency extraction of the team, which risked being stranded on the peninsula.

SH Minerva performs emergency extraction of team collecting valuable samples and data during expedition to commemorate the centenary of Shackleton’s final voyage
Today, Wednesday the 26th of January 2022, Swan Hellenic announced that its five-star, ice-class cultural expedition cruise ship SH Minerva gave assistance to evacuate the Antarctic Quest expedition team from Portal Point, sailing into Charlotte Bay on January the 16th during her second cruise exploring the Antarctic Peninsula.

The expedition team had spent five weeks engaged in science and educational outreach, travelling in untrodden regions over and along the spine of the Antarctic Peninsula when it became clear they would have to attempt an early return. Covid containment restrictions introduced in Argentina had led many Polar operators to cancel their programmes, so the expedition team could not be picked up as planned. Indeed, there was a very strong risk they might have been stuck on the peninsula. Which was when SH Minerva arranged to come to their assistance.
“We have to say the warmth and hospitality of everyone on SH Minerva was simply outstanding and we were treated with such kindness. It is hard to find words to express our gratitude for all that was done for us,” said Expedition Leader Paul Hart.

A Commemoration of the life of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, the expedition collected samples providing vital information for its science collaborators on the levels of microplastics and metals in the snow, on the ozone hole, the amount of UV reaching the Peninsula and meteorological observations to help improve the modelling of ice-mass accumulation and loss on the Peninsula.

Swan Hellenic has responded promptly, laying on a new 13-day polar cruise of the Antarctic Peninsula and South Shetland Islands, Beyond the AntarcticCircle, departing Ushuaia on the 20th of February, while also opening to bookings the limited remaining accommodation on its chartered 13-day Antarctic Peninsula Discovery Cruise , departing Ushuaia on the 8th of February. As a result, a choice of staterooms and suites is at present still available. Today, Friday the 31st of December 2021, Swan Hellenic announced that its new ship SH Minerva had left Ushuaia yesterday evening on her maiden cultural expedition cruise of the Antarctic, a 9-day New Year celebration of discovery.
Cruising in the expert hands of industry veterans Captain Tuomo Leskinen and Hotel Director Philipp Reutener, SH Minerva’s first guests look forward to celebrating the New Year deep in the splendours of Antarctica. Here, they will soon be exploring the inspiring sights and wildlife of the Peninsula and milder Shetland Islands in the company of Expedition Leader Pablo Brandeman, polar expert Steve Blamires and renowned ornithologist Andy Bunten.
Internationally acclaimed chef Jörg Lehmann is bringing Swan Hellenic’s distinctive new gastronomic vision to life on board, presenting varied menus of freshly cooked delicacies that include original Italian and Asian fusion dishes, created in partnership with multi-award-winning Consultant Chefs Andrea Ribaldone and Sang Keun Oh.
